What is CBD?
Cannabidiol, commonly known as “CBD,” is a substance extracted from the leaves and stem of the cannabis sativa plant. Although CBD and marijuana originate from the same plant, CBD contains no THC. THC is the chemical responsible for the “high” associated with marijuana use. In recent years, numerous medical benefits of CBD have been discovered. It’s being used to reduce pain, anxiety, prevent brain deterioration and cancer, and even improve sleep. Consumption is easy, as CBD comes in many forms ranging from topicals and vaporizers to coffee and gummy bears.
5 Reasons to Use CBD
1. Reduce Pain
According to various studies, CBD is known to reduce pain and decrease inflammation. In this manner, CBD is a great alternative to prescription drug use for lowering pain. Many prescription drugs are highly addictive, and users can easily develop a dependence on them. CBD could be used in place of prescription drugs as a more natural and less addictive replacement with fewer side effects. While prescription drugs and pills are made synthetically in laboratories, CBD comes straight from a plant and is 100% natural. To treat arthritis aches and muscle pains, try using a CBD-containing topical like the Healing Stick or an Aches CBD Vaporizer.
2. Decrease Anxiety
Nowadays, we know that anxiety disorders are much more common than they were once believed to be. Anxiety disorders range from PTSD to social anxiety disorder to panic disorder, and more. Fortunately for anyone who suffers from one or more of these disorders, CBD is a natural remedy that has been shown to reduce feelings of anxiety. The substance activates the serotonin receptors in the brain, increasing feelings of well-being and happiness. Various studies have shown that the effects of anxiety disorders can be minimized through the intake of CBD.
3. Prevent Brain Deterioration
Psychology teaches us that the brain is moldable- it changes throughout a person’s lifetime. Unfortunately, certain brain disorders and conditions can be caused by a single “bad” change in a person’s brain. Luckily, CBD has been shown to reduce the prevalence of brain disorders including (but not limited to) seizures and psychosis. In fact, CBD is such a powerful treatment for people who suffer from seizures that the FDA has approved a drug containing CBD as a treatment for certain forms of epilepsy. Additionally, patients with schizophrenia who used CBD suffered less psychosis as a result.
4. Treatment (and Prevention) of Cancer
While there is no definite cure for cancer, there are ways to prevent the disease. Research has shown that CBD intake not only leads to a decrease in cancer cells in patients diagnosed with the condition, but it can also prevent the formation of cancer cells. Cancer patients could find CBD to be extremely helpful as it may reduce the symptoms associated with chemotherapy (including nausea) while helping to fight cancer cells.
5. Better Sleep
Approximately 70 million people worldwide suffer from insomnia or some other form of sleep disorder. Many people may turn to sleeping pills for an answer, however, CBD is a much healthier and safer remedy for insomnia and other sleep disorders. One study revealed that the use of CBD oil was proven to be an effective way to reduce insomnia in children. Another study revealed that CBD improved sleep-related behaviors in patients with Parkinson’s disease.
The Bottom Line
It’s no wonder that CBD consumption is currently on the rise in the U.S. The wide variety of illnesses and pains that can treated with this natural remedy is astounding. It’s not surprising that CBD is growing in popularity as more and more people are wanting to try it out for themselves.
